Sutton in Broncos contract extension
It is being reported that Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton has agreed to a four-year contract extension, worth $60 million, with him guaranteed to pocket a cool $35 million.
A second round pick in the 2018 draft, Sutton has earned his stripes in Colorado and has become an important part of the Broncos’ makeup.
In the final year of his rookie contract, the 26-year-old has posted some impressive stats during his tenure. In 2019, he recorded a 1,112 yard season, and missed just one fixture in 2020 with a tear to the ACL.
Number of renewals for the Broncos
This latest news comes at a time when the Broncos have been busy in the boardroom, with Tim Patrick extending on a three-year deal worth a reported $34.5 million.
General manager George Paton has made no secret of his desire to retain homegrown talent that also includes the talented duo of Jerry Jeudy and K. J. Hamler, and sees this strategy as the key to future success.
Extending the contract of Sutton though was seen as a priority by Broncos chiefs with them reluctant to let him slip through their grasp.
Other signings in the pipeline?
Following recent extensions, it has led to rumors that others could follow at the Broncos.
Linebacker Kenny Young is one in particular that is being tipped to extend, with the player due to become a free agent in 2022. Young has slotted in seamlessly to the Broncos’ defense and could well be the next in line to extend.
Meanwhile, another set to become a free agent in the spring, is Offensive Tackle, Calvin Anderson and after impressive performances this season when he replaced the injured Bobby Massie, it could be regarded as a travesty if he wasn’t re-signed.
