DeSclafani in Giants return

It appears the post-season is starting to gather pace in the MLB and the latest news sees the San Francisco Giants re-sign right-hander pitcher, Anthony DeSclafani.

Having signed for the Giants before the start of last season on a one-year $6 million deal, the Giants have moved quickly to secure him on a long term contract after some impressive displays.

Posting a 13-7 record and 3.17 ERA over 167 2/3 innings, he had the best season of his entire career, which makes for a highly promising next few months.

 

Getting better with age?

At 31, it could be argued that the player is in the peak of his baseball career and last season indicated that the trend will continue.

Giants’ president of baseball operations shared his delight at the player committing to a long term deal, saying:”He obviously had a really nice year for us.

“You know, beyond his individual stats, we were 21-10 in games that he started. So the team had a lot of success when he took the ball, which obviously is of the ultimate importance.

“His interest was in doing a multiyear deal, and we actually think we’re going to get a sort of really comfortable and secure pitcher in Anthony now that he’s on a multiyear deal. So it just seemed like [a multiyear contract] was the best fit for both parties.”

The three-year deal is worth a cool $36 million and DeSclafani will no doubt be wanting to carry on in a similar vein of form.

 

Continued success for the Giants?

In his debut season for the west coast franchise, DeSclafani helped the Giants to win the National League West title, as well as a record 107 games for the side.

Having made his MLB debut in 2014 with the Miami Marlins, the pitcher then signed for the Cincinnati Reds in 2015,where he spent five seasons.

The Giants are clearly an ambitious franchise and one that is on the up – DeSclafani can certainly help with continued success.
