Yankees part company with Odor and Frazier

In a bid to stick to the 40 man roster requirements, MLB side the New York Yankees have released both outfielder Clint Frazier and infielder Rougned Odor.

The regulations also saw Tyler Wade move to the Angels, though this is in exchange for a player to be confirmed at a later date.

While Frazier has put in adequate performances during his tenure with the Yankees – his best season coming in 2019, he was deemed surplus to requirements.

 

Frazier still capable of strong performances

Despite sanctioning the player’s release, Yankees general manager Aaron Boone still thinks Frazier can taste success at the highest level.

“Fortunately for him, his story is not complete from a baseball standpoint,” Boone said recently in a press conference at the Yankee Stadium.

“The bottom line for Clint is, he’s a guy with a lot of ability. It’s just a matter of he’s dealt with some injuries and different things that kept him off the field at times. But I feel if he gets the right opportunity and [stays healthy], he still has a really good opportunity to write a really good career story.”

Still only 27, if the outfielder has a consistent period, where he stays injury-free, then he can be a key difference-maker for whoever he signs with.

In a recent tweet, the player vented his frustration about wanting to air his views publicly: “I’d love to have the opportunity to talk about this situation publicly and probably plan to do so soon — my issues have been very personal to me and something I’ve wanted to handle privately, but there’s been a lot of inaccurate things reported about my injury that I’ll clear up,” Frazier tweeted on October 28.

Odor, who is also 27 has the potential to hit the big time, if his performances become more consistent. On his day, he is capable of recording game-changing homers. It will certainly be interesting to see who takes a chance on him.

 

Wade’s emotional goodbye

Meanwhile, Wade tweeted an emotional farewell message to Yankees fans, thanking them for their support over the years.

He tweeted: “New York, the last 9 years have been a dream. I can’t thank the fans enough for embracing me and making me feel a part of the city. To All my teammates I’m gonna miss ballin and competing with y’all! New York will always be a part of me!”
