BetMGM and DGC expand partnership in Michigan
The US online gambling market is one of the most hotly debated business topics currently, especially with the number of states now passing bills, in addition to the number of deals being negotiated.
Michigan is one of those states, who recently launched online gambling (January 2021) and it has gone from strength to strength – each month surpassing records for revenue, while it also has some of the biggest operators in the industry available for residents.
One of those is the popular BetMGM sportsbook, launched initially by the entertainment company MGM Resorts International in 2018 in partnership with UK giant Entain.
It has now seen BetMGM link up with software provider Digital Gaming Corporation for a third state, which means that residents in Michigan can access DGC products via the BetMGM sportsbook.
Good news for BetMGM
For the online operator brand, it certainly represents an encouraging step, with the majority of the Michigan market siding with it since it launched in January.
VP of Gaming at BetMGM, Matt Sunderland, revealed: “BetMGM has held the top operator spot in Michigan since the industry’s start in January, due in part to our focus on building the strongest games portfolio. We’re thrilled to offer BetMGM players in Michigan access to DGC’s full suite of quality titles.”
Meanwhile, Chief Commerical Officer of B2B iGaming at DGC, Neill Whyte, added: “DGC remains steadfast in its dedication to developing games that exceed player expectations throughout the regulated US.
“We’re delighted to have launched our games to players in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and now Michigan through our partnership with BetMGM.”
Michigan breaking records
While initially there was an uncertainty as to how the market in Michigan might react to online gambling being approved, these concerns have since been cast aside.
In October, the online poker rooms available to residents hit an all-time high for state participation, while $20.3 million in revenue was generated for the state, via taxation of the online gambling operators.
For October, BetMGM was a leader for revenue, generating $41.4m from both its sportsbook and thriving online casino asset that is gradually becoming a leader in the US gambling industry as a whole.
