Brady condemns hit on Bucs teammate Godwin

Tampa Bay Buccanneers quarterback, Tom Brady has spoken out after seeing Chris Godwin hobble off against the New Orleans Saints, following a low hit by Saints’ defensive back, P.J Williams in a game that finished 9-0 to the Saints after a great disciplined shutout performance.

After medical analysis, it was deemed that Godwin will miss the rest of the season, with a torn ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) and Brady has suggested that such a tackle needs to be banned from the game.

“It’s not a cheap hit, because they’re allowed to do it,” Brady revealed.

“Let’s Go” on Monday. “There needs to be a rule that forbids it, and therefore people understand the vulnerability of a pass-catcher in the act of receiving the ball and being hit.”

“I’ve seen that hit too many times where a defenseless pass catcher is in the process of catching the ball and he’s hit by the defender,” Brady said.

“And a lot of defenders would say, ‘Well, we can’t hit him in the head anymore.’ Well, the point is, you can’t hit anybody in the head anymore. You can’t hit anyone in the knees anymore – except the receivers, which doesn’t make any sense to me.

“You can’t hit a defensive lineman in the knees, you can’t hit a punter in the knees, you can’t hit a quarterback in the knees, you can’t hit a (defensive back) in the knees – except for allowing hits on defenseless receivers. It needs to be addressed and really thought out.”

Bucs with one eye on playoffs

Currently, the Bucs top the NFC South group and will be confident of securing a spot in the playoffs, with games against the Panthers, Jets and then the Panthers again.

However, this latest injury to one of their star performers could be somewhat of a setback and after the shutout against the Saints, concerns may arise whether they have enough to get their season over the line in one piece.

Whatever happens over the next month, all eyes will be watching eagerly in the hope that Brady at least might be able to play a major part in steering the side to the playoffs.
